At EDU, excelling means a stronger focus on communication skills, emphasized critical thinking, encouraging creativity, fostering interdisciplinary problem-solving and emphatic leadership. These skills that enable lifelong learning and professional development are becoming increasingly relevant for success. As an institution of higher education with recognition in the European Union, EDU has been built to thrive and meet these challenges using a new model of outcome-oriented education and create global impact.
Our programmes maintain a strongly interdisciplinary approach to higher education, because often real-world problems appear without clear disciplinary borders. Students should expect to immerse themselves in multi-perspective, world-class expertise on a variety of subject matter derived from carefully curated content and excellent professors. An EDU degree will prepare graduates to excel; not just in a profession, but for what they feel is their calling.
Often the further communities are from access to institutions of higher education the higher the need. EDU offers new ways of learning, providing the benefits of medical education to individuals in regions with limited access. Everyone with the passion and interest in studying high-quality medical should have the opportunity to do so. Our students are welcomed from around the world, having only to change locations when they begin their clinical rotations.
LEARNING AT THE PACE OF INNOVATION
Technology disrupts traditional industries while creating countless new jobs and professions. The digitised workplace demands a different set of skills and specialised know-how from professionals in mid-career who graduated from university long ago. Higher education systems can often be slow to catch up, taking much time and effort to be designed, developed, tested, evaluated and accredited at a conventional university. The state-of-the-art digital infrastructure for online and blended learning at EDU helps encourage effective learning practices and adapt instructional design to be both current and particular to student needs.
Developing the EDU College of Medicine from the ground up gave us the unique opportunity to completely rethink, invigorate and innovate how students study medicine. Current research on the effectiveness of digital learning tools made us realise how we could improve the quality of medical training for students. The starting point was to focus on relevant knowledge, how clinical practice can be learned by applying the theory with real patients early on, and creating an organisation so flexible that it would allow a maximum of access to our degree programmes no matter their location.
Research shows that the same network effects that make social media so powerful can facilitate effective learning. This result is incredibly valuable when applied to education and the much-needed developments in medical education. For many students, a blended study environment that combines individual study and working with other learners is ideal. Experience demonstrates that teams are especially helpful when engaging with increasingly complex assignments.
The social learning done in our online teams is an award-winning distinguishing feature of our digital learning format. Our use of digital technologies to deliver high-end educational formats allows for flexibility in both time and learning style. This way of working also allows us to give students individual feedback that is in addition to grades. Students can reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of their results in regular tutoring sessions with instructors.
As is standard for educational institutions, our programmes are accredited by the requisite educational authorities. However, we see ourselves as a learning organization, going beyond the requisite standards to frequently request independent professional organisations to audit our content, educational quality, and direct impact on the national and international labour markets. In addition to this, if our student body is interested in helping us improve our curriculum, they make contact the Pro-Dean of Teaching at any time. If you have feedback, please give it, the next generation of students will thank you for it.
As we have chosen to address the shortage of medical health care and education opportunities, our College of Medicine is focusing on the core subject areas from the biomedical sciences as well as specialisations. Our programme focuses on evidence-based medicine and the point of departure for development of the curriculum is the WFME Global Standards as published by the Institute for International Medical Education (IIME) Core Committee.
We pay special attention to aligning our degree programmes with sector developments, as the ultimate measure of our achievements is not the number of applications we receive every year – it is the successful careers our alumni embark on.
MEASURING AND IMPROVING RESULTS
Assessment drives learning. EDU is committed to transparent standards that assure end-to-end quality for:
- The highest possible quality in teaching a comprehensive body of academic knowledge.
- A well-rounded curriculum that is aligned with the current state of research.
- Rigorous supervised training during the practical phases of our study programmes.
The online medical learning environment provides the rich atmosphere of a custom-tailored learning experience with the collaborative spirit found on a campus. The students, faculty, and tutors in our programs frequently interact with each other to solve problems and discuss issues of interest. These relationships ultimately create the shared experience of an intensive educational programme, as well as having our students learn to create solutions particular to varying contexts.
A GLOBAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
As an EDU student, you can take our Virtual Campus with you wherever you go. In this truly global learning environment, you can connect with fellow students to solve a tricky assignment, review a difficult chapter together, gather friends to cram for an upcoming test, or chat about life’s big questions – as the majority of our students enjoy doing.
EDU staff will match individual members of the learning community together based on common foundational characteristics and challenges faced by students. These teams will have their own online collaborative space to work in on their assignments. Cultivating these skills is crucial for academic success – during your studies at EDU and wherever you decide to go next. Once you master them, they will serve you in all future learning experiences.
Decades of medical experience from professors, researchers, and educators in medicine shape our curriculum and didactic approach. We believe that more skills can be developed in real-world experience when immersed in a live professional medical environment. During their practical medical training, students are integrated in clinical routines and receive a structured education with immediate proximity to patient care at the side of their clinical teachers.
